Respectful Workplace & Harassment Prevention

Recognize prohibited conduct, maintain professional boundaries, respond as a bystander, report concerns, and prevent retaliation.

Two-part training requirement. First, complete the applicable free California Civil Rights Department interactive training: at least one hour for nonsupervisory employees or two hours for supervisors. Then complete this ANEW Promise policy module. California training is required every two years and generally within six months of hire or promotion into a supervisory position.
Step 1 · California requirement

Complete the correct CRD course

Employees: select the one-hour nonsupervisory course. Managers and supervisors: select the two-hour supervisory course. The state course must be interactive; this short agency video does not replace it.

Step 2 · ANEW Promise policy

Know our reporting and response rules

The policy applies to employees, directors, managers, contractors, and other work-connected third parties. It covers verbal, visual, digital, sexual, and physical conduct connected to a protected characteristic.

Report concerns promptly to Nanette Joseph-Lorgea at (707) 207-9042 or another designated management contact. If the concern involves that contact, or the response is not satisfactory, use another management reporting path or contact the California Civil Rights Department or EEOC.

Agency commitments

Investigation confidentiality and no retaliation

ANEW Promise will investigate reports and take prompt, appropriate remedial action. Information will be protected to the extent possible while allowing a fair investigation. Retaliation for reporting a concern or participating in an investigation is prohibited.

Policy violations may result in discipline, up to and including termination. Employees should report conduct even when it appears minor so the agency can respond.

Completion record

Keep both records

Retain the official CRD completion certificate and complete the quiz and acknowledgment below. Administration verifies the state certificate separately and the portal schedules renewal two years after completion.

Course presentation

Watch the warm, scenario-based presentation with on-screen narration support, then complete the knowledge check and acknowledgment.

Knowledge check

Answer every question. A score of 80% or higher passes this supplemental module.

1. Can workplace harassment occur through work-connected texts or group chats?
2. Must an employee confront the person before reporting harassment?
3. What is an appropriate bystander response?
4. What should a manager do after learning about possible harassment?

6. Which action could be retaliation?

Paid sick leave policy. Employees receive 80 hours after 30 calendar days of employment, renewed every hire anniversary. Sick leave is tracked separately from vacation/PTO. After three consecutive scheduled workdays of absence, HR may request reasonable documentation when legally permitted; no diagnosis is required, and protected sick leave is not denied solely because medical certification was not provided.
Paid time off policy. Full-time employees accrue 80 PTO hours per year from their hire date; part-time accrual is prorated by scheduled weekly hours. PTO becomes usable after 90 calendar days, carries forward without forfeiture, and stops accruing at a 120-hour cap (prorated for part-time employees). Approved PTO is subject to staffing and scheduling needs. Earned unused PTO is handled as wages at separation as required by California law.
